C.S. Lewis

Today, as many people know, is a 50 year marker of the death of Clives Staples Lewis, one of the most prolific "Christian authors" of the past decade. My bias up front is that the works of CS Lewis are very dear to me. He's not perfect; no one is, so we must always be careful not to deify our heroes. Yet he has helped me immensely over the years in gaining a better understanding of the grace, character, and Joy in knowing Christ. As regards this company, and our recent endeavor of explaining why we do what we do, I was reminded of a short excerpt from one of his writings titled The Weight of Glory:

The load, or weight, or burden of my neighbor's glory should be laid on my back, a load so heavy that only humility can carry it, and the backs of the proud will be broken. It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you can talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare. All day long we are, in some degree, helping each other to one or other of these destinations...There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilisations- these are mortal, and their life is to ours the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit- immortal horrors of everlasting splendors.

At the end of our last post, we explained our purpose as a company. That it is not about us becoming rich or famous, but rather stirring hearts and making relationships that can point more deeply to God. Though we aren't close to doing this perfectly, we try to see people in the way that CS Lewis describes above, as eternal beings, of utmost importance.

Our Purpose: Part 1

Our Purpose: Part 1

“In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth.” Genesis One:One

The most compelling story of all-time begins with this moment. What kind of story would begin this way? The first thing God wants us to know is that He is creative? A better opening would be discussing the supreme power of God, “In the beginning God reigned supreme.” Boom. Now you know He means business. Or to show the mercy of God, “In the beginning God was super nice.” Whew, now everyone will really like Him.

"If our vision was better defined, these choices would be easier to make." -Alec

This statement was made to me just over three months ago.  We were in the middle of making some incredibly difficult decisions and trying to navigate what felt like an ocean of grey. Through discussion as a team, it became clear that I hadn't done my job as our leader. Alec did what I hope someone in your life is willing to do — he called me out.

Spotlight: Observer Drift

Spotlight: Observer Drift

A little over a year ago One:One did an interview with musician Collin Ward on the release of his first album. Collin is an old friend of Alec's and mine, so we can't help but get excited with the unique work he's creating. He's made it on to multiple radio stations in Minneapolis, and even did a live show not too long ago. All that said, here we are, over a year later, and Observer Drift has just released a new full length album entitled "Fjords."

Listen to Fjords here.

Inspiration: Spencer Combs

Over the last several years, one of our constant inspirations has been Spencer Combs. Keep in mind I am intentional in not saying the work of Spencer Combs. The reason is, he is an incredible inspiration. Although we have never had the chance to meet him, we have met some of his clients, and all of them rave about him. He is fun, personable and genuine. We have always aspired to have these kinds of relationships with our clients, and much of that flows from his example.

His creativity is also a serious motivation. This guy is in love with all forms of the arts and it shows! Over the years he has done everything from being voted the "Best Photographer of the Year" by Minnesota Bride Magazine, to releasing an album

Mr. Combs may remain just an online, admired friend, but his influence in our work and creativity is ever-present. If you haven't ever had the chance to see his work, head over to his incredible website and check him out, it is well worth your time.

The Grand Rebrand

We just turned three years old as a company and to celebrate our birthday we decided to get a whole new look that better captures us as a team. It is fun, clean, and really really good looking. Three of our favorite features:

1. A blog that isn't just photography news, but now all client and team news.

We have a lot to ay about what is going on as a business. What better way to keep you all up to date than with a blog? You couldn't think of anything and neither could we.

2. A Clients Page!

We do a lot of different work, and what better way to feature the people we work with than to give them an entire page on our website! Everything from weddings to websites will be shown here, as well as a few favorite quotes from clients.

3. A Sweet, Sweet Store.

We do a lot of work just for fun. Dane loves nature photography, Alec loves to draw shtuff and now FINALLY we have an easy way for you guys have a little bit of One:One in your home! Please shop our store and buy bunches of things. You need it and so do we.

We hope that you are as excited as we are, however, we doubt that is likely or even possible.

Thanks for looking around and for making our business continue to thrive well into it's third year.

Bobby, Allie, Alec, & Dane
